We invite you this June 2018 to Karura Forest for the first Alzheimer’s walk. Alzheimer’s is one of the least understood mental diseases in Kenya with common symptoms such as memory loss, confusion, behaviour change etc affecting many in our community and mostly going undiagnosed. We hope to start changing this narrative by taking the first steps to start the conversation.
Funds raised will go towards;
- Scaling up the awareness initiatives in creating Dementia friendly communities by expanding our reach to the rest of the country.
- Facilitating care giver training (most care givers either have informal training or no training and this would go a long way in improving care level and the quality of life of the affected person.
- Establishing support groups outside Nairobi.
- Facilitate research (There are no known Kenyan statistics on the number of people living with Alzheimer’s and research will help ADOK and potential stake holders determine the level of assistance required, communities that are a more prone to the disease, disbursement necessary aid to the affected) etc
